Writing in a fun way... yes, it's possible!

Of the four skills, the one that gets less attention in an L2 class, or the one that is less developed by the students, is writing. Why is that? Well, that would take a whole new post, but what I want to share here are two ideas I got from MakeBeliefsComix.com.

  1. Use comix. Here are 21 great ideas and ways to use comix in the classroom. Just to mention a few: 'create autobiographical comix', 'create daily comix diaries'.
  2. Printables. I don't know how many printables there are here, but there must be tons of them. They are in different categories, such as: 'about you', 'holidays & celebrations', 'writing prompts' and more.

These are some examples of the printables which are great for encouraging students to write and think in a quickly and fun way.

Answer with video

I was reading another technology blog today and found about Intervue.me. This website very handy for teaching! Especially when it comes to teaching languages, because it can allow students to get a lot of speaking practice.

I won't go on explaining how it works; Nik has done it very well, so just check it out here

What I loved about Intervue.me:

  • Students can send their videos without having to create their own account.
  • You can download the videos (mp4).
  • It's more fun than having to write down the answers.
  • You can share the link on any website/blog, Twitter and Facebook, or e-mail it to your students.
So give it a try, and I hope you like it as much as I do.

Methodology or Technology?

The following video is in Portuguese, but I believe you do not need translation in order to understand the big picture > Technology is great, but our methodology is what really matters!

So think about it and share some of your ideas... (in the comments!!)

Does technology make us better teachers?
Does it do everything in the classroom?
Can it replace the role of the teacher?

A prezi on Technology in the English Classroom

Start sharing...

A lot of teachers ask me the same question: "How do you find all those cool stuff for teaching?" I just tell them that I find them online, browsing for ideas and useful things for TESL. My problem is that later on, when I want to use those cool stuff I can't always find them again.

I had always thought I should start a blog where I can post links, ideas, tools and other things I find or make for TESL. So finally, here it is.

I want to welcome the blogger (me) and the reader (you) to this blog. It probably seems just like any other ESL teacher's blog, and that's what it is now, but it will eventually turn into something more than just that. I hope you can join me and be part of that metamorphosis.
